L-Alanine (C3 H7 NO2) is a non-essential amino acid which may be considered essential under some circumstances. L-Alanine is highly concentrated in muscle tissue. Excess L-Alanine may be broken down into glucose and used as an energy source. L-Alanine can also function as an inhibitory or calming neurotransmitter in the brain. Alanine has been shown to stimulate the immune system. It may also help stabilize the blood glucose levels in people with hypoglycemia.
According to Chaitow, suggested dosage is between 200 and 600 milligrams daily. Jo Mar's L-Alanine is 100% pure U.S.P. grade crystalline free form. The powder is water soluble, has a sweet taste and weighs about 4.0 grams per level measuring teaspoon. Capsules may contain less than 1% magnesium stearate, an inert ingredient used in the encapsulation process.
