L-Glutathione is found in every cell of the body. Its function is to protect all kinds of cells from the damaging effects of toxins and oxidative stress. But in order to benefit from glutathione's vigilant protection, we sometimes need to stabilize our bodies' levels of glutathione reserves. All kinds of things can impact glutathione levels, including time of day, natural aging and exposure to ingested and chemical toxins – not to mention constantly generated free radicals.
And while supplying the body with adequate glutathione can be achieved through diet, Setria® L-Glutathione is an absorbable tri-peptide that can help replenish the body’s reserves in times of need.
Setria® L-Glutathione is a tri-peptide that is sometimes referred to as "Reduced Glutathione". A peptide is a molecule composed of two or more amino acids. Setria® L-Glutathione is composed of the three amino acids L-Cysteine, Glycine, and L-Glutamic Acid. Whole proteins (chains of 50 or more amino acids) must be broken down by digestion in order to be absorbed by the body. It appears that some small peptides (chains of 2 or 3 amino acids) can be absorbed without further reduction. There is much debate as to the effectiveness of taking peptides instead of free amino acids.
Setria® L-Glutathione powder has a tangy sour taste but is not as bad as L-Cysteine or NAC. It is available in both powder and capsule form. The powder is soluble in water and weighs about 1.8 grams per level measuring teaspoon. An adequate supply of Vitamin C and B6 should always accompany any Glutathione supplementation.
